Day 1 (Friday, June 13) – Brooklyn Exploration
Arrived at Newark Airport (EWR) at 7:48 AM, headed to the Manhattan hotel to drop off bags, then launched into a full brewery crawl. Breakfast was at Ess-a-Bagel (831 3rd Ave) – authentic New York bagels to fuel the adventure.
1. Other Half Brewing – Centre Street ⭐

Brewery Info
- Address: 195 Centre St, Brooklyn, NY
- SNS: X post

Other Half was a brewery I had dreamed about since my college days. I remember buying every single bottle from the first import batch in Japan and barely eating that month to afford them all!
Experience Highlights:
- Revolutionary silky texture achieved through germinated oats in the grain bill
- Perfect balance of tropical hops fused with subtle tea-like nuances
- Sharpness and smoothness in harmony – both aroma and finish are exceptional

Germinating the oats changes the starch structure, creating a smoother, silkier mouthfeel than regular oats~Hop! That’s the secret behind the “velvety” texture of world-class Hazy IPAs~Hop!

Day 2 (Saturday, June 14) – Albany: The State Capital Pilgrimage
Departed New York Penn Station at 7:15 AM on Amtrak Empire Service #233, arriving at Albany-Rensselaer Station at 9:52. After dropping bags at the hotel, started with breakfast at Albany’s famous Iron Gate Cafe before hitting the breweries.

We went with a group of friends and incredibly, each person had a different brewery as their top pick for the day – that’s how unique and excellent every stop was. Also, TEST had just entered a temporary licensing-related closure right before we arrived, which was a shame.
Morning: Iron Gate Cafe ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Brewery Info
- Location: Rural area near Albany (~40 min Uber from downtown)
- Style: “Extreme” Hazy – maximum hop quantity school

Deep Fried Beer represents the “extreme” Hazy lineage~Hop! They just use sheer volume of hops to overwhelm you – it’s wrong in the best possible way~Hop! Like the Ramen Jiro of the craft beer world~Hop!
Experience Highlights:
- The “quantity violence” approach – pure hop saturation that somehow works brilliantly
- Dense, powerful, overwhelming – and utterly delicious in its excess
- Rural location adds to the pilgrimage feeling – this is a destination brewery
10. The City Beer Hall ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ [Unexpected Gem!]
Bar Info
- Location: Downtown Albany
- SNS: X post
- Notable: Discovered an entirely new segment of the Albany beer scene

The best discoveries on a trip are always the unexpected ones~Woof! A beer hall you stumble into after a full day of planned visits turning out to be amazing – that’s what travel is all about~Woof!
Day 3 (Sunday, June 15) – Long Island Expedition
Departed Albany at 7:30 AM on Amtrak Adirondack #68, arriving at New York Penn Station at 10:05. This day had an efficiency challenge: Marlowe (northwest of NYC) and Root + Branch (Long Island – east of NYC) were in completely opposite directions, leading to long transit times.

Honestly, Day 3 was mostly travel time. I was tired and not thinking clearly in the morning, so I couldn’t plan the most efficient route. But I got to every place I wanted to visit, so no regrets!
11. Marlowe Artisanal Ales ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

- SNS: X post
Experience Highlights:
- Fun atmosphere with pop culture label art and a welcoming vibe

14. TØRST ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bar Info
- Location: Brooklyn (Greenpoint area)
- SNS: X post
- Access: Take Uber from KCBC (neighborhood safety consideration)

The staff were so friendly and passionate about beer – getting to talk beer with someone like that is the ultimate way to end a trip~Woof!

When I mentioned I thought NYC’s water tasted great, they brought me sparkling water as a complimentary gesture. They even offered a special pour of a can that had just arrived “from a truly outstanding brewery.” And we got to try Hill Farmstead Brewery too – incredible hospitality from start to finish.
Service Experience:
- Warm, knowledgeable staff who genuinely love beer
- Complimentary sparkling water when I mentioned NYC’s water quality
- Special pour of freshly arrived Hill Farmstead Brewery cans
- When asked my favorite Seattle brewery, “Human People” – the resulting conversation was wonderful
- Quiet, refined atmosphere yet perfectly approachable for beer conversations
- This place embodies what a world-class beer bar should be
New York Hazy IPA Style Analysis

This trip revealed a critical insight~Hop! New York’s Hazy IPA scene actually breaks down into three distinct lineages~Hop! Understanding this completely changes how you plan your itinerary~Hop!
Modern Hazy Lineage (Tropical-Forward)
- Representative Breweries: Brujos, Fidens, Monkish
- Characteristics: Latest techniques, tropical hop focus, mouthfeel like biting into fresh tropical fruit
WCIPA-Respect Hazy Lineage (Citrus-Forward)
- Representative Breweries: The Alchemist (originator), Other Half (bridge), Evil Twin, Finback
- Characteristics: Rooted in “We tried to make a WCIPA and this happened,” citrus hop focus
Extreme Lineage (Quantity over Everything)
- Representative Brewery: Deep Fried Beer (Night School)
- Characteristics: “Wrong in the best way” – sheer hop quantity wins through overwhelming force

Both schools are incredible in their own way! The contrast between citrus-focus vs tropical-focus is what makes the NY scene so rich. The overall beer quality here is like a manga final arc – what would normally be #1 anywhere else ends up at #3 because the competition is that fierce.
