Basic Information

Overview: Where the Beer Garden Sits Within Sapporo Summer Festival 2026

The Sapporo Summer Festival runs for 27 days from Thursday, July 23 to Tuesday, August 18, 2026, centered on Odori Park. Its headline attraction, the “Fukushi Kyosan Sapporo Odori Beer Garden,” runs over the same July 23–August 18 window with hours of 12:00–21:00. It is positioned as one division of the wider summer festival, and it is a large-scale event with venues split across several city blocks (chome).

Other festivals overlap with this period outside Odori Park as well. The Tanukikoji Shopping Street (South 2–3 jo, West 1–7 chome) holds the Tanuki Matsuri over the same July 23 – August 18 dates. On Sapporo Ekimae-dori (South 4 jo – South 7 jo, West 3–4 chome), the 62nd Susukino Festival runs from Thursday, August 6 to Saturday, August 8, and at Odori West 2 chome the Hokkai Bon-Odori takes place from Thursday, August 13 to Sunday, August 16. For roughly four weeks, it isn’t just the beer garden — the whole city is in festival mode.

Venue Guide: Walking Odori Park from West 5 to West 11 Chome

The Odori Beer Garden is not gathered into one block. Each chome has a different operating company and a different concept, so picking the right chome for what you want is the first step to doing this well. For context, “chome” are the blocks that divide Odori Park from east to west; the park spans West 1 through West 12 chome for a total length of about 1.5 km. Even the beer garden stretch alone — West 5 to West 11 — is roughly 700–800 m end to end one way, so wandering without deciding on a target chome burns more energy than you’d expect.

Odori West 5 Chome: Suntory The Premium Malt’s Garden

• Time limit: 100 minutes
• Guide prices (per beer, tax included): The Premium Malt’s, 435 ml medium mug ¥800 / 700 ml mega mug ¥1,150; Suntory Draft Beer, 500 ml medium mug ¥750. To share, there’s a 2.5 L tower pitcher at ¥3,500–¥3,700 and a 10 L keg at ¥13,000–¥15,000^[7]
• Reserved seat pricing: Reservations from 16:00 Sunday–Friday (including public holidays) and from 12:00 on Saturdays cost ¥1,600 per person (includes one drink plus two snacks; paid on arrival as a reservation fee). Bookings after 16:00 require 4 or more people; before 16:00, 2 or more.
• Character: Built around The Premium Malt’s, and one of the venues offering time-limited reserved slots.

Odori West 6 Chome: ASAHI SUPER DRY BEER PARK

• Character: A shaded, cooler venue serving draft beer from kegs produced at the only large-scale beer factory within the city of Sapporo.
• Guide prices (per beer, tax included): Asahi Super Dry, 500 ml medium mug ¥800 / 700 ml large mug ¥1,120. The signature Extra Cold comes in a 435 ml “Kinkin tumbler” for ¥800. Table servers are ¥3,200 for 2 L / ¥4,500 for 3 L, and a 10 L keg is ¥15,000^[8]
• Signature pour: “Super Dry Extra Cold,” chilled to below freezing and served in its dedicated “Kinkin tumbler.”

Odori West 7 Chome: Kirin Ichiban Shibori Beer Garden

• Guide prices (per beer, tax included): Kirin Ichiban Shibori, 500 ml medium mug ¥800 / 700 ml large mug ¥1,150. The West 7 specialty, a 3.5 L balloon pitcher, is ¥4,800^[9]
• Reservation plan pricing: Groups of 3 or more. A mini hors d’oeuvre plus drinks costs ¥4,200 per person (120 minutes, with free refills of six kinds of draft beer and soft drinks); ¥3,000 for those under 20, free for preschool children.
• Character: A large venue surrounding the circular fountain, with 1,891 seats in total (312 of them reserved). Because the share of reserved seats is low, reservation slots tend to fill up early.

Odori West 8 Chome: THE Sapporo Biergarten

• Dates & hours: Operates within the same overall window as the other chome (July 23 – August 18, 12:00–21:00).
• Character: One of the main venues alongside West 5 and West 7 chome, located in the central part of Odori Park.
• Guide prices (per beer, tax included): Sapporo Classic, 500 ml medium mug ¥800 / 800 ml large mug ¥1,150; Sapporo Draft Beer Black Label, medium mug ¥800. A 2.7 L tower server is ¥4,300 and a 10 L server is ¥15,000^[10]
• Limited-run pour: “SAPPORO CLASSIC FRONTIER MEMORIAL,” a collaboration with Hokkaido University, is ¥1,000 for a medium mug. It is available in limited quantities over the first 12 days of the run (July 23 – August 3).
• Note: Seat reservations are not available. If you’re ordering for a group, the Live Kitchen Set at ¥4,500 (shared by 2–3 people) or the Party Set at ¥3,900 work out cheaper than the same items ordered individually.

Odori West 10 Chome: World Beer Plaza

• Character: A venue where you can compare craft beer from inside and outside Hokkaido alongside German beer from the source.
• Guide prices (per beer, tax included): Nine draft beers from around the world run ¥750–¥1,100 for a 500 ml glass (Carlsberg, Heineken and Sapporo SORACHI 1984 at ¥750 each, Pilsner Urquell at ¥1,000, BrewDog Punk IPA at ¥1,100, and others). A tasting set of three 200 ml pours is ¥1,200 per set^[11]
• Reserved seat pricing: Reservations are only available for the air-conditioned reserved-seat tent. 90 minutes at ¥2,000 per person (includes a ¥2,000 food and drink voucher), for 2–10 people, accepted via the website only.

In covering both Japanese craft beer and imported beer side by side, this is the venue that differs most in flavor from the rest of the chome.

Odori West 11 Chome: Sapporo German Village

• Character: Serves draft beer from Hofbräu, the official brewery of the Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany.
• Guide prices (Hofbräu draft, tax included): CUP 300 ml ¥1,400 / GLASS 500 ml ¥1,800 / MASS 1,000 ml ¥3,400. Measured per 500 ml, that is more than double the domestic-beer chome^[12]
• Reservations: The sofa area can be booked online (bookings open July 1).

Drinking beer in Odori Park from a brewery directly tied to the original Munich Oktoberfest is what makes this chome stand out. If German beer is your goal, it’s most efficient to build your route around the western blocks, pairing this venue with the World Beer Plaza in West 10 chome.

150th Anniversary Commemorative Design Can

The “SAPPORO PREMIUM BEER 150th Anniversary Commemorative Design Can” has been confirmed for limited-quantity release in Japan and in countries around the world (the Japanese release is scheduled for December 1, 2026). Hokkaido University Collaboration: “SAPPORO CLASSIC FRONTIER MEMORIAL”

“SAPPORO CLASSIC FRONTIER MEMORIAL,” a collaboration beer brewed with “Hokudai No.1” barley malt developed by Hokkaido University, goes on sale on July 28, 2026, exclusively in the Hokkaido area. Other Festivals Worth Combining

While the Odori Beer Garden is on, other festivals run in parallel in different parts of the city. Rather than treating the beer garden as the whole trip, pairing it with the nearby festivals gives you a much fuller taste of a Sapporo summer.

Tanuki Matsuri (Tanukikoji Shopping Street)

Dates: Thursday, July 23 – Tuesday, August 18
Venue: Tanukikoji Shopping Street (South 2–3 jo, West 1–7 chome)

It runs on almost the same dates and in almost the same area as the Odori Beer Garden, which makes it easy to hop between the two.

The 62nd Susukino Festival

Dates: Thursday, August 6 – Saturday, August 8
Venue: Sapporo Ekimae-dori (South 4 jo – South 7 jo, West 3–4 chome)

It runs for just three days in the middle of the beer garden period, so it’s worth timing your visit around it.

Hokkai Bon-Odori

Dates: Thursday, August 13 – Sunday, August 16
Venue: Odori West 2 chome

It takes place at West 2 chome, a stone’s throw from the beer garden venues (West 5–11 chome), so you can drop in as part of the same walk between beer garden stops.

Access and How to Make the Most of It

• The site is long, not compact: The Odori Beer Garden is spread across six blocks from West 5 to West 11 chome, so deciding which chome you’re heading for before you set off will save you from wandering.
• A single beer can cost more than twice as much depending on the chome: West 5–8 chome, which serve Japanese beer, are almost level with each other at ¥750–¥800 for a medium mug (435–500 ml). By contrast, a 500 ml GLASS of Hofbräu in West 11 chome is ¥1,800, and the world drafts in West 10 chome span ¥750–¥1,100. If you want to keep the budget down, go for West 5–8; if you’d rather pay more per glass for something unusual, go for West 10–11.
• Some chome take reservations and some don’t: West 5, 7, 10 and 11 chome have reservation slots, but West 6 and West 8 chome do not accept seat reservations. If your group needs guaranteed seating, build the plan around the chome that take bookings.
• For German beer, head to West 10–11 chome: The World Beer Plaza and Sapporo German Village are next to each other, so if imported beer is the goal, working around these two blocks is the efficient route.
• Plan the surrounding festivals into the trip: Tanuki Matsuri, the Susukino Festival and Hokkai Bon-Odori are all within walking distance of Odori Park and overlap in dates. Rather than cramming everything into one day, spreading several festivals across separate visits is a solid approach.

If you get turned around, use the exit numbers at Odori subway station as your landmark! Lock in only the chome that need a reservation, and you can wander freely for the rest.
