Craft Beer Review

Appearance

Translucent. Some slight haze is noticeable, but you can see through it.

Aroma

Aroma (Orthonasal)

Licorice and dragon fruit aromas, with a whiskey-like malt-derived vanilla sweetness.

Flavor (Retronasal)

Incredibly aromatic. As the temperature rises, a cider-like character emerges similar to American-Belgian beers. The Belgian aromatic impression may be strong. In terms of flavor alone, I thought it was quite close to Japan’s Shared Brewery WCIPA. (Note that the aromas are completely different—theirs leans much more medicinal, while this is gorgeous.)

Mouthfeel

A natural, beer-like mouthfeel.

Body and Texture

Malt weight befitting the alcohol level, with grape-like sweetness and malt sweetness intermingling, combined with alcohol’s cooling sensation. Delicious.

The Swallow

A luxuriousness that would become satisfyingly dank at higher ABV. The dank character seems Simcoe-driven. Comfortable. Goes down without any snag. I could drink pints of this.

Aftertaste

Dry. Crisp, yet an American-Belgian cider-like sweetness lingers long in the mouth.

Dregs

A strong hassaku peel-like impression.

Overall Impression

A highly drinkable WCIPA. Delicious. Dry yet with solid bitterness. Satisfying body with a perfect balance of ABV and sweetness. Truly delicious. That was my review of Monkish West Coast Flavor!
