Hello! I’m Riho, a craft beer enthusiast.
On November 14, 2025, I visited The Original 40 Brewing Company in San Diego’s hippest neighborhood — North Park. Founded in 2019, this community-centered brewery takes its name from the 40-acre citrus farm that shaped historic North Park, and earned a GABF 2025 Silver Medal for its remarkable barrel-aged stout.
“The Original 40” name comes from 40 acres of citrus farmland purchased by James Monroe Hartley in 1893 — that’s what became modern North Park — Hop! “Magnetic Ribbon: Final Cut Edition” is a beast of a barrel-aged stout aged 45 months in Elijah Craig 8-Year bourbon barrels, winning GABF 2025 Silver — Hop!!

A Hazy IPA (ABV 7.0%) using Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops, winner of the 2023 San Diego International Beer Competition Gold Medal. Themed around “a maze of juiciness,” it features lush tropical fruit aromas and a soft, smooth mouthfeel. A cornerstone of the lineup with consistently high Untappd ratings.
② Magnetic Ribbon: Final Cut Edition ★ GABF 2025 Silver
A wood- and barrel-aged dessert stout (ABV 13.3%) aged 45 months (nearly 4 years!) in Elijah Craig 8-Year bourbon barrels, with Dominican bitter chocolate nibs and Muddy Paws Dark Roast coffee. A monstrous achievement that earned GABF 2025 Silver. If it’s in stock when you visit, order it immediately!
③ Westerly Flow ★ Flagship West Coast IPA
A year-round West Coast IPA (ABV 7.0%). Clear, dry, with classic bitterness and hop aroma — consistently popular across their 24-tap lineup.
