Appearance

Haze with noticeable chill haze. You can still see through it.

Aroma

Orthonasal Aroma

Freshly baked cookie-like malt character is front and center. Citrus aroma. Like freshly microwaved frozen edamame. Marmalade. Refreshing. Yet rich. The grassy character is executed beautifully, combining with marmalade to create a black tea-like nobility. Simcoe AmarilloPerhaps because the dry hopping is effective, it’s beautifully clean without generic melon.Apricot up front, candy-like reinforcement. As it warms, careful alcohol and malt create a slight whisky-like quality. Grain notes within too.

Retronasal Flavor

Black tea notes. Grass. Maillard-reacted malt. Hints of mint, pineapple. Green apple. White grape.

Taste

Mouthfeel

Heavy. Weighty. No sharp attack — it’s like heavy water settling on the tongue. Malt character builds gradually.

Body and Texture

Tea-like. Weighty. On the tongue, Amarillo-derived apricot and Cascade’s green apple emerge! Already delicious at this point!!! Assertive grassy character — but not unpleasant! Beautifully executed. Simcoe-derived? As it warms on the tongue, Simcoe’s chicle-like quality emerges. The robust malt is so pleasant! It makes you feel like you’re truly drinking beer. Thank you. Once on the tongue, the bitterness spreads in what appears to be a slow, heavy wave. A deep, weighty spread of bitterness. Slightly charred Maillard malt notes. Yet no unpleasant scorched bitterness. I also detected a metallic luxury in part of the astringency. Is that why I’m hooked?

The Swallow

Grassiness comes through luxuriously. Could this be a form of dank? Licorice character is strong. An elegant dankness — different from Stone’s style. Something feels like it’s missing… what could it be…

Aftertaste

Despite the depth of flavor, the aftertaste fades cleanly. Not aggressively dry like Oni Densetsu, but not lingering either. A dry finish with lasting echoes of black tea and licorice. Simcoe’s chicle quality lingers. Plus, the licorice character also persists.

Overall Impression

A clear, elegant, and beautiful WCIPA that maintains a black tea-like nobility while delivering the satisfying depth you might call dank.

Dregs

Strong grassiness. Like fortified tea turned to alcohol? An alcohol-derived coolness mixed with citrus. The mouthfeel is gentle, but the finish has an alcoholic coolness. The gentleness on the throat is impressive, but better to separate. Not unpleasant though, so mixing is fine too.
