Hi, I’m Riho! The highlight of my San Diego beer trip was attending the Capital of Craft Beer Festival! My friend and I came specifically for this fest, but we reconnected with someone we’d met before and even befriended a university professor at the venue. Before we knew it, four Japanese people were toasting together—what an incredible coincidence in San Diego! Craft beer truly brings people together.

The Venue Is… a Harley-Davidson Parking Lot!?

The first thing I saw upon arrival was a Harley-Davidson dealer sign. That’s right—the venue is a motorcycle dealer’s parking lot! The vast space was filled with booths from over 80 breweries, creating a spectacular sight.

Four Japanese Beer Lovers Unite! A Miraculous Beer Fest Encounter

Though I came to San Diego with just one friend, we connected via social media with someone we’d met before, and also befriended a university professor who happened to be there. We ended up as a group of four Japanese people enjoying the beer fest together!

Among the 80+ participating breweries, here are the ones that left the biggest impression!

🌟 Booze Brothers Brewing Co.（ブーズ・ブラザーズ）

One of the breweries I tried for the first time at this fest and found particularly delicious. Founded in 2013 by brothers Donnie and David Firth in Vista, they now operate taprooms in Vista, Oceanside, and Fallbrook.

🌟 Ketch Brewing Brew Pub（ケッチ・ブリューイング）

Another brewery I first discovered at this fest and thoroughly enjoyed. A hidden gem in San Diego’s Kearny Mesa area, with a unique industrial warehouse atmosphere.

Pizza Port（ピザポート）

An absolute staple of the San Diego beer scene. Hugely popular locally, they were a must-visit at this fest. Beloved for years for their perfect pizza-and-beer combination.

Stone Brewing（ストーン・ブリューイング）

A legend of San Diego’s craft beer world. One of my favorite breweries, I naturally checked them out at the fest. They’re essentially the birthplace of the world-famous West Coast IPA style.
