About This Craft Beer

Beer Characteristics

A Pale Ale brewed with HBC586 Cryo and Strata hops.

HBC586 is a new variety developed by Hop Breeding Company in Yakima, Washington, characterized by mango, orange, and chili pepper-like spiciness.

The Strata hops used here are harvested in Oregon and known for passion fruit, grapefruit, and dank qualities.

These flavors interweave in beautiful balance, creating a delicate Pale Ale.

Craft Beer Review

Appearance

Golden and clear. Beautiful.

Aroma

Aroma (Orthonasal)

Grass and alcohol with a characteristic coolness. Maintaining Strata’s signature berry character while smelling clean. A nuance like strawberry stems is also detectable.

Flavor (Retronasal)

Berry-like nuances. A definite alcohol presence that adds depth. Vanilla-like impressions too.

Mouthfeel

Beer-like mouthfeel.

Body and Texture

Beer-like. It hits the tongue like water, yet on the tongue you taste malt sweetness and definite alcohol. The freshness and cooling alcohol harmonize beautifully. The slightly sticky malt sweetness combines with Strata’s strawberry-like character for a very gentle feel.

The Swallow

Not flashy. When carbonation is present there’s a pleasant prickle, but once it settles, it slides down like water or whiskey. A slightly tobacco-like, grassy nuance lingers at the back of the throat.

Aftertaste

A grassy, grapefruit-like nuance lingers long, but without clinging bitterness—finishes clean. Crisper than carbonated juice. Pleasant grapefruit. Definite malt presence.

Dregs

Strong cooling impression. Yet never too hot or unpleasant.

Overall Impression

Best served cold. Even as it warms, you can enjoy it like whiskey. Shows many different faces. I thought it was more IPA than Pale Ale. The ultimate IPA. Goes down smooth and satisfying. The strong strawberry nuances suggest it would pair beautifully with red meat.
