I’ve never heard of 2ndSAW before, wan! What kind of brewery is it?

Founded in 2014, it’s a brewery particularly praised for farmhouse ales and NEIPAs. They’re gaining attention for their original beer making using local Tokushima agricultural products.

📊 Beer Basic Information
【Beginner’s Guide: NEIPA (New England IPA)】
NEIPA is an IPA style born on the East Coast of America in the 2010s. Its characteristics include a hazy appearance and a balance that emphasizes hop aroma and juicy flavors over bitterness. It achieves a smooth mouthfeel through the use of oats and brings out rich aroma through dry hopping techniques.

Double dry hopping is a technique where hops are added twice separately after fermentation to bring out more complex and rich aroma, hop! While the IBU (bitterness units) are kept moderate, the amount of hops used is 2-3 times that of regular IPAs, hop!

🎨 Appearance and Aroma
When poured into a glass, the beautiful hazy golden color typical of NEIPA appears. The foam is excellent, with fine creamy foam that lasts for a long time. The color tone is somewhat deep, with a depth that suggests Imperial (high alcohol content).

It smells so good, wan! It’s like fruit juice!
The aroma is overwhelming. The moment you bring your nose close to the glass, rich tropical fruit aromas rise up. Passion fruit from Mosaic hops, grapefruit and lime from Citra hops, and the distinctive orange peel aroma from Tango hops. The effect of double dry hopping makes the aroma layers very complex and deep.
👅 Detailed Taste Analysis
🌈 Taste Profile

It’s amazing that it’s so drinkable despite being 9%! But I need to be careful not to get drunk…

This is 2ndSAW’s technical prowess, hop! The passion fruit feel from Mosaic hops is strong, but it’s exquisite brewing technique where you can’t feel any unpleasant chewing gum-like aspects at all, hop! But as Rene-chan says, since it’s high alcohol, it’s important to enjoy it little by little, hop!
🏆 Overall Rating
NEIPA that embodies the pinnacle of tropical aroma

Imperial New England Overall Assessment

2nd Story Ale Works’ “Imperial New England” was an excellent beer that demonstrates the high level of NEIPA brewing technology. Despite the high alcohol content of 9%, it’s surprisingly drinkable, with impressive rich tropical fruit aroma and smooth mouthfeel from oats. The brewing technique that completely eliminates the unpleasant aspects of Mosaic hops demonstrates the high level of Japan’s craft beer industry.
A masterpiece where you can fully enjoy the appeal of NEIPA, also perfect as an introduction to high-alcohol IPAs. However, due to the high alcohol content, I recommend enjoying it slowly over time.
