Beer Characteristics

Mockeries is a double dry-hopped Triple IPA! Inspired by the Socrates philosophy TIPA, we doubled the amounts of Mosaic, Galaxy, and Citra hops.

Craft Beer Review

Appearance

Whitish haze. Hazy.

Aroma

Aroma (Orthonasal)

Strong chicle notes. Hints of dark chocolate, green apple, and light berry.

Flavor (Retronasal)

Pronounced cherry, cacao chocolate, acidity, and a coolness blending hop bitterness with alcohol. Refreshing yet not cloying, making it easy to take the next sip.

flavor

Mouthfeel

As natural as water. Silky smooth. Despite the enormous hop load, the mouthfeel is naturally water-like—impressive. No harshness the moment it hits your palate. No heaviness either. Effortlessly drinkable.

Body and Texture

Strong grainy, toasty malt character with prominent cookie notes. The bittersweet chocolate impression I’ve also found in Trillium beers is strong here. There’s a big gap between the smooth mouthfeel/throat feel and the richness on the palate. Silky dry going down, yet rich on the tongue. No lack of satisfaction.

The Swallow

When fresh, the fruit character would gorgeously graze the throat. I regret that impression is fading. What would have been fruit freshness now asserts itself as heat. It’s tasty in its own way, but probably not the intended flavor.

Aftertaste

A bittersweet chocolate-like lingering sweetness remains.

Dregs

Remarkable that there’s no heat or astringency on the palate or tongue. It only becomes noticeable the instant you swallow.

Overall Impression

Best when cold. Would have been even better fresh. Clean mouthfeel with a dry finish—a chugworthy Hazy! Would pair great with oden or dashimaki tamago (Japanese rolled omelet).
