This is from Smog City’s WCIPA series that rotates hop combinations. This edition features Idaho 7 and Citra.

Availability Period

I bought it around May.

Beer Review

Appearance

Clear enough to see through. A slightly pale gold. Beautiful.

Aroma

Orthonasal Aroma

Citraメインの少しのIdaho7でドライホップ？ Citraの熟れたメロン、若干のIdaho7のトロピカルボム。歩み寄り。
Idaho7メインの少しのCitraでワールプール？

Retronasal Flavor

鼻腔後方受容器ではすごくIdaho7。白く硬い桃っぽさややメロンややパイナップルを草、土っぽさでまとめた香りのボム。
温度が上がると若干のベリーっぽさ？ただ、桃が主役。Citraの柑橘もいるけど、Idaho7の桃が主張してきた。草っぽさは香りからは感じない。モルトの甘さとSmog Cityらしい綺麗な金属は感じる。

Taste

Mouthfeel

Thick and viscous. Gentle yet weighty without being cloying. Water chemistry? I want to study water adjustment. Higher chloride than sulfate perhaps? Is that what’s creating this? Not flashy. But with the carbonation balance, it’s gentle. An incredibly skillful mouthfeel.

Body and Texture

ピールっぽい柑橘系の美しい苦さがジワジワとこみ上げてくる。ビタリングはCitraとIdaho7両方？ビタリングにおけるホップの特徴はSabroの南国感くらいしかわかってない(このビールにSabroは入ってない) 苦みの出方はジワジワタイプ。舌に乗って温度が上がる毎にジワジワと出てくる。煮沸終了10分前は少なめで、初期のケトルホップが多め？
少し水っぽいようで、金属感を含んだモルトらしさが出てくる(Smog Cityらしさ)がとてもいい。好み。

The Swallow

Hop bitterness intensifies. Ripe melon, chicle, and a Calpis-like film quality. Lingers slightly in the throat. Riding the carbonation, the Calpis-like quality and hop citrus explosion is delightful. It doesn’t have the same cohesion on the swallow as 2ndSAW, but the way the aromas spread is very Smog City – elegant and clean.

Aftertaste

A slight metallic quality lingers with citrus marmalade notes. It leaves an aroma in the mouth like the marmalade jam I used to taste as a child with more sensitive taste buds.

Overall Impression

The Citra and Idaho 7 aromas are expressed beautifully while maintaining the Smog City character. Fantastic. The clarity of the liquid is also outstanding.

Sediment

Same as the main pour. Fine to mix in. Slightly more peel character. Even the sediment has a pleasant wateriness that showcases Smog City’s mastery.
