Zwei Brewing (Fort Collins, CO) – Authentic German Lagers

I’m Riho, a craft beer enthusiast.My personal best from the Fort Collins brewery tour was Zwei Brewing Co. Their incredibly high-resolution approach to German beer styles is outstanding, and the surprise of finding a sushi food truck made it even more memorable.

About Zwei Brewing Co.

“Zwei” means “2” in German. Based in Fort Collins, Zwei Brewing has specialized in Southern German beer styles for over 17 years. They carefully brew a wide range including pilsner, helles, dunkel, marzen, and rauchbock. As a craftsman-spirited brewery with deep knowledge of German beer, they’re highly regarded in Colorado’s craft beer community.

Taproom Atmosphere

The spacious taproom evokes the relaxed atmosphere of a German beer hall. Food trucks are permanently stationed, and during my visit, there was a sushi food truck. I never expected to eat sushi at a Colorado brewery, so I literally did a double-take.

Beers Tasted: Pilsner & Dunkel

I compared a pilsner and a dark lager (dunkel). Both were astonishingly polished, with a sensation of flowing down the throat as smoothly as water.

What particularly impressed me was the soft carbonation. Finer than the lagers commonly found in Japan, with an exquisite balance of gentle malt sweetness and restrained hop bitterness. “High-resolution German beer” perfectly describes these pints. BeerAdvocate praises them too: “Helles, dunkel, Vienna, schwarzbier – all authentically delicious.”

When I tried to buy a glass as a souvenir on the way out, the register was already closed. But a regular negotiated on my behalf, and they gifted it to me. This experience, too, speaks to the wonderful spirit of Zwei Brewing.
