What Kind of Craft Beer Is This?

Beer Characteristics

An early spring seasonal collaboration. This year, we sat with our friends from Georgetown Brewing in Seattle and the hop masters at Yakima Chief, gazing lovingly at each other until this beer sprang fully formed from the forehead like Athena from Zeus after a long headache. Just kidding – we did many test batches and tasted them like normal people.

The result is the ideal spring beer. Hundreds of pounds of premium cryo hops are packed in, with flavor condensed onto light, effervescent butterfly wings. Fanzine is the ultimate fan’s tribute to the beer world’s favorite style: the IPA.

Appearance: Bright yellow with a soft haze.

Aroma: Mandarin orange, gooseberry, papaya, floral, with slightly resinous sweet notes.

Flavor: Gently sweet, fully bitter, with berry and orange peel notes and a light, zesty finish.

Brewer’s Notes
Fanzine IPA is a Spring Seasonal IPA collaboration. Fanzine 2023 was brewed at Georgetown Brewing and features label art by Carson Ellis. Carson is the author and illustrator of Home and the illustrator of the Wildwood Book Series. She painted the city on the City of Dreams cans. She rocks.

Craft Beer Review

Appearance

Slight protein haze. But mostly clear. Some sediment present.

Aroma

Orthonasal Aroma

Strong green apple nuances. Malt sweetness with concentrated hop character. Apple dominates overall. A clean aroma blended with alcohol.

Retronasal Flavor

Slight peach nuances with clean gourd-like notes as the base. Maintaining that gourd-like green quality without being too vegetal, while a refreshing berry-like aroma passes through the nose. Strong licorice and Columbus-type nuances. A beautiful refreshing sensation where alcohol and Columbus-type coolness intermingle.

Taste

Mouthfeel

Beer-like mouthfeel. Slightly sweet impression too.

Body and Texture

Despite gourd-like and watery impressions, the protein-rich, solid malt character is strong and not at all unsatisfying. Plus a pleasant alcohol presence. Comfortable.

The Moment of Swallowing

Not much flashiness – it carefully descends down the throat. Delicious. You can gulp it down. Zero throat resistance, making you crave the next sip immediately. Delicious. The kind of wonderful drinkability where the more you drink, the more you want.

Aftertaste

Not spicy at all, yet a strong toasty sweetness like burnt cotton candy, like red candy, like caramelized sugar lingers long in the mouth. The opposite of dry – a mellow, languid impression. Would pair great with meat.

Bottom of the Glass

Reddish spiciness. The mellow impression intensifies. Delicious.

Overall Impression

Fort George x Georgetown FANZINE IPA 7.2%　review! A protein-rich, heavy-bodied WCIPA! Delicious! I think it pairs perfectly with meat. What a treat.
