About This Beer

Characteristics

A tropical beer using Riwaka, Mosaic, and CRYO POP hops. The grassiness is extremely subdued – it almost felt like sake.

Availability Period

It was on the shelves on 2022/09/30. WCB releases beers weekly, so if you check their Instagram and buy the latest Hazy IPA, you can always get a fresh beer – which is fantastic.

Where to Buy

I bought it at The Slop Shop, my beloved go-to bottle shop. It also appears to be available at Sake no Tanaka.

Appearance

Whitish haze.

Aroma

Aroma (Orthonasal)

Passion fruit. Fruity. Incredibly aromatic. Not just hops – there’s definitely yeast character too. The vibrancy of melon/gourd mingles with passion fruit aromatics. Slightly oily but not at a bothersome level.

Flavor (Retronasal)

青りんご。白ぶどう。吟醸香のようなAromaが温度が上がってくると強くなる。飲みやすい。
ニュージーランド系の、ミントのようなシップのような冷たさがアルコール感と混じって鼻を抜ける。

Taste

Mouthfeel

Glides into the mouth naturally, as a beer should.

Body and Texture

Cookie-like malt underpins the entire experience. Very pleasant malt character. Meets the tongue gently and naturally. There’s absolutely no prickly hop harshness.

The Swallow

★かなり自然に喉に落ちていく★ダンクさや草っぽさはなく、スルッと喉の奥に通る。
温度が上がってくるとやや辛さを感じる。そこだけがすこし残念。

Aftertaste

Leaves a long melon-like, cucumber-like gourd aftertaste. I personally love this cucumber-like quality, so I adore it.

Overall Impression

Compared to previous WCB Hazy IPAs – they were already good, but this has gotten even better. The restraint on grassiness going all-in on tropical really comes through. On the other hand, spiciness becomes noticeable as temperature rises. Perhaps due to the minimal grassiness, there is no dankness, and the drinkability is water-like – a comfort reminiscent of sake.

Sediment/Bottom

Oily impression with a strong sake-like quality. Absolutely no lingering spiciness or astringency.
