1t IPA is here!

Back after just over a year. This is the 11th batch.

9.5%, IBU 109.

As you know, this hugely popular beer uses a full ton of malt and an almost extravagant amount of hops.

Since around the end of last year,

“Is it ready yet?”

we’ve received many such requests. Thank you for your patience.

This 1t IPA was originally inspired by old-school, powerful West Coast IPAs.

The color is bright orange.

Citrus aromas reminiscent of Valencia oranges, with a grassy impression too.

While you sense the sweetness the color suggests, the balance with hop bitterness makes the drinking experience clear, juicy, and dry as always.

We know beers like this have become quite rare these days, but we still think this kind of IPA is really something special.

Hits you hard, yet dangerously easy to keep drinking.

Best enjoyed gulping it down alongside BBQ or great burgers.

You can totally drink this from a pint glass, but again—pace yourself.

This time we made a generous double batch.

Craft Beer Review

Appearance

Strong dull haze when cold. As the temperature rises, the chill haze clears and you can see through it. Not quite crystal clear.

Aroma

Aroma (Orthonasal)

Strong citrus with C-hop green apple blending with alcohol. Slight melon-like impression. Strong alcohol presence. The sweetness of alcohol and hops merge beautifully.

Flavor (Retronasal)

Strong grape-like nuances. Within that, there seems to be a Strata-like strawberry acidity mixed in, which is very pleasant. Between notes, licorice and minty freshness emerge. Feels like I could drink this endlessly.

Mouthfeel

A beer-like gentleness with a coolness that reveals heavy alcohol.

Body and Texture

Building on the Shinshu Wase hop grassiness often found in Shiga Kogen beers, you strongly feel the C-hop marmalade-like citrus. As citrus intensifies on the tongue, you simultaneously feel alcohol’s coolness—very pleasant. The malt is quite robust, reminding you this is a classical IPA. As carbonation dissipates, the weight becomes more apparent. Like marmalade with slightly peach-like nuances. The malt weight is just right, preserving the citrus refreshment, so it goes down without any snag. A flavor you could drink endlessly.

The Swallow

Strong Columbus-like licorice with added dankness. The swallow is neither too refined (licorice x alcohol) nor too dank—just right. Slightly on the refined side, making it easy to keep gulping. Goes down without any snag. I’d drink pints of this.

Aftertaste

Rich marmalade. Doesn’t burn the throat at all. Falls smoothly without catching. Beautiful. Like drinking fine whiskey.

Dregs

Strong peel nuances. Caramel notes too—makes you want to drizzle it on pudding. Slightly murky. But there’s a certain craft quality that makes you think, “this is what local beer is about.” Very delicious.

Overall Impression

This is by far my favorite among all the 1t IPA batches. I was instantly captivated. I’ve always loved high-ABV West Coast IPAs, and this one absolutely nailed it. Thank you.
