KNEE DEEP / 12th Anniversary Hop Trio (TWCIPA 11%) I tried it — here’s my review. An incredibly tasty high-ABV beer. A highly recommended craft beer. This is KNEE DEEP Brewing’s 12th anniversary beer! A WCIPA exceeding 11%. Knee Deep really excels at high-ABV clear IPAs, and this is a perfect example!

Beer Review

Appearance

Brownish clear.

Aroma

Orthonasal Aroma

Strong Knee Deep signature aroma. Assertive alcohol with a sticky, bitter resinous quality and apricot. A beetle-attracting honey-like scent lurks underneath. Slight ginjo-like aroma too. Notes reminiscent of sake and apple.

Retronasal Flavor

Citra lends a ripe melon impression with slightly white grape-like nuances. An aroma like crushing grape skins between your molars. A definite vanilla-like sweetness is also detectable.

Taste

Mouthfeel

Natural beer-like quality with a slightly cool sensation from the strong alcohol.

Body and Texture

Malt sweetness serves purely as the foundation. Combined with alcohol, it creates a ginjo-like, beer-like, apple-like impression. Romantic. As it warms, white grape and apricot emerge. The alcohol’s coolness combines to create pineapple-like nuances too.

The Swallow

Mosaic-derived dank. Lately I’ve been building a dank scale: Mosaic, then Simcoe, then Magnum/Columbus. Mosaic definitely has dank nuances. When chicle (flavor-spent gum) overlaps with high alcohol, it approaches the licorice-tinged dankness found in Columbus. A tea-like dankness. A mellow, tea-leaf impression that persists.

Aftertaste

A mellow, tea-leaf-like grassiness lingers in the mouth. Would pair amazingly with wagashi (Japanese confections). Pleasant. A spiciness gradually builds from the back of the throat but never becomes excessive. Would also pair well with wasabi dishes. I think gulping this down while devouring a wasabi-laden seafood donburi would be pure bliss.

Overall Impression

An outrageously delicious WCIPA. The more you gulp, the better it gets. Interesting that despite the high ABV, it’s far better with strong carbonation. Knee Deep at its absolute best. That was my KNEE DEEP / 12th Anniversary Hop Trio (TWCIPA 11%) review!

Dregs

Nearly identical to the body. Just slightly more grassy. Grape skin quality is strong. Delicious. A bit of caramel too — would be great drizzled over ice cream. Has a whisky-like quality.
