What Kind of Beer? A Properly Bitter IPA

Characteristics

Warmth from the high ABV, the hop punch expected from a Double IPA.
Characterized by tropical fruit aromas woven from Australian hops.
Simply, carefully, aiming for a delicious Double IPA.
ABV 8.0% IBU 70

Craft Beer Review

Appearance

Clear

Aroma

Orthonasal Aroma

Strong grassy nuances. Tropical notes underneath, hassaku citrus and orange. Slight spice? Melon and malt sweetness.

Retronasal Flavor

Peach and cider. Yeast character. Melon. Strong green notes. Near watermelon rind. Intensely melon-like quality, watermelon and cucumber. Delicious.

Taste

Mouthfeel

A natural beer-like quality. Beautiful. Enters enchantingly.

Body and Texture

Beautiful like grape skin, yet refreshing. In the mouth, a nice balance of fermentation-derived yeast character and melon-like sweetness. Chicle-like bitterness and acidity. Moderate malt sweetness. Not too heavy. Slides down smoothly. Solid malt presence is impressive. Delicious.

The Swallow

Dank-like stimulation, carbonation acidity briefly spreads then drops down with some throat bite. Delicious but not the gulpable type. Some roughness. Personally, I may prefer this brewery’s lower-ABV beers. Definitely well-crafted overall.

Aftertaste

A carefully compressed alcohol warmth. Dank elements are subtle. Closer to Stone than Knee Deep, but neither exactly. Elegant alcohol. Beautiful. Faint ginjo-like aroma.

Overall Impression

A very drinkable WCIPA. Should have broad appeal. As temperature rises, licorice-like flavors emerge. Very similar to Stone’s alcohol presentation. Alcohol-forward rather than dank. Delicious.

Dregs

Barely noticeable citrus, like hassaku, firm apple, and apricot. Neither spicy nor astringent. Beautiful. Drops smoothly down the throat. Delicious.
