Beer Review

Appearance

Hazy brown. Strong malt color. Incredibly long-lasting head. 30 minutes after pouring and it shows no sign of fading.

Aroma

Orthonasal Aroma

Gorgeous. Belgian yeast. Spicy florals. A solid base of sweet malt. The malt is so prominent you can even detect chocolatey notes.

Retronasal Flavor

An atmosphere of sharp bitterness from slightly scorched malt. Black tea notes. Yeast character. A slight yeasty funk? It seems like the yeast is still alive.

Taste

Mouthfeel

Water-like gentleness. Natural.

Body and Texture

A sharp bitterness like scorched malt arrives early. But it’s never heavy — well balanced with gradually building hop bitterness. Like scorched malt left at the bottom of a mash tun? The hop bitterness is of the lemon, marmalade, and orange variety. A metallic bitterness is also detectable. However, the ethyl acetate character isn’t as intense as in other Belgian beers, making it approachable even for newcomers.

The Swallow

The scorched malt-like bitterness asserts itself a bit more. But it’s not unpleasant — like dark chocolate.

Aftertaste

A mellow, marmalade-flavored chocolatey aroma lingers with yeast notes. Very pleasant.

Overall Impression

A very approachable Belgian beer. Seems beginner-friendly.

Dregs

Strong black tea character. A slippery yeast quality. Dark chocolate. Delicious. Would be great drizzled over ice cream or pudding.
