Beer Review

Appearance

Wheat-derived haze. Still hazy even after chill haze settles.

Aroma

Orthonasal Aroma

Hop citrus and alcohol. Strong C-hop impression. Green apple notes.

Retronasal Flavor

Strong alcohol sensation and a chicle quality like flavor-spent gum. Notable acidity. Unusually sour for a WCIPA. Wheat.

Taste

Mouthfeel

Strong carbonation gives it a beer-like quality. The wheat presence isn’t overly assertive. When you go to chug it, it slips into the mouth surprisingly smoothly.

Body and Texture

As it warms on the tongue, WCIPA-style bitterness rises along with a spicy acidity. There’s a gentle wheat softness. This wheat gentleness would likely enhance food pairings. However, I personally don’t look for that quality in a WCIPA.

The Swallow

No dankness whatsoever. Yeast-driven spicy aromas and acidity cleanly graze the throat as it goes down. Delicious.

Aftertaste

A long-lasting finish of grapefruit-like citrus, slightly industrial alcohol-derived bitterness, and green apple. Pleasant.

Overall Impression

A WCIPA that makes you crave ramen. As a WCIPA, I wish it were clearer. Without the wheat and without the dankness, it would be more to my taste. But that would defeat the purpose of what makes this beer unique.

Sediment

No harshness or astringency. Maybe a slight wheat spiciness? Gentle.
