Hey there! I’m Riho, a craft beer enthusiast. The perfect finale to my New Orleans beer trip was a visit to Brieux Carre Brewing Co. I’d heard that many New Orleans breweries collaborate with them on lagers, and I had to see firsthand just how good they were.

What is Brieux Carre Brewing?

Brieux Carre Brewing Co. is a microbrewery founded in 2017 that brews world-class lagers in a tiny 400-square-foot (approximately 37 square meter) space. Located on Decatur Street in New Orleans, they specialize in styles rarely found elsewhere — Helles, Grodziskie (a traditional Polish smoked beer), and Czech-style dark lager among them. As a frequent collaborator with local breweries, Brieux Carre serves as a respected hub in the New Orleans craft beer scene.

Atmosphere & Space

Described as “smaller than some breweries’ gift shops,” the compact interior opens up to a courtyard of comfortable size in the back. The intimate space actually enhances the brewery’s cozy atmosphere, putting you close to the staff and encouraging great conversation. Their commitment to serving beer in traditional Czech glassware elevates the special feeling of every pint you drink here.

Beers I Tried

Beer NameStyleTasting Notes
HellesMunich Helles LagerEndlessly drinkable with a crystal-clear finish and subtly sweet character. A gentle lager crafted for the people of New Orleans. Beats the heat with pure refreshment

From the very first sip of the Helles, I knew: “This is it.” An endlessly drinkable, crystal-clear flavor with just the right touch of sweetness creating an exquisite balance. The fine, creamy head poured into traditional Czech glassware was a sight beautiful enough to fill your heart just by looking at it. A perfect beer for New Orleans’ hot climate, and the ultimate finale to my beer trip.

Helles means “bright” or “light” in German and is a Munich-origin lager style. It has more malt sweetness than a Pilsner with restrained hop bitterness. Grodziskie is a traditional Polish smoked beer — globally quite rare. A brewery that cherishes these classic styles is truly precious!
