Appearance
Jet black—still dark even when held up to light

Aroma (Orthonasal)
Bitter chocolate. Hops with a subtle minty accent. Simple grapefruit-forward hops.

Aroma (Retronasal)
Licorice, charred malt, and a pronounced bitterness.

A slight burnt cigarette-like ash quality. Charred bitterness. Some people may find this off-putting.

Mouthfeel
Slightly heavy yet gentle. A natural gentleness. Enters as smoothly as water.

Body & Texture
From the clean mouthfeel, bitterness remains gentle even on the tongue. Sweetness arrives before any harshness does. Bitter chocolate.

The Swallow
Bitterness intensifies, along with hop spiciness. Not harsh, though. Gulping it might be challenging, but fortunately this isn’t a gulping style of beer, so it’s not a concern. The finish really makes you aware of how hop-forward it is. Slightly grassy, with a touch of sakura mochi (cherry blossom rice cake) leafy character.

Aftertaste
Cacao with a bitter chocolate-like sweetness, A coffee-like berry acidity lingers on the tongue as it transitions into a dry finishRich yet dry and clean, leaving only a lingering aftertaste—a quality that feels refreshingly deliberate and unmistakably Society.

Overall Impression
Rich yet dry. Complex yet clean. And a long bitter chocolate aftertaste. Very much Society’s signature. Has weight too. Really excellent.

The burnt cigarette-like ashy bitterness means this won’t be for everyone. I personally love it. The bitter chocolate may be a touch too refined for pairing with a cigarette. There’s a certain in-between quality. But I like it.

Off-Flavors
Slight burnt-bottom-of-the-pot malt? Not overpowering but noticeable.

Bottom of Glass
A slight bitterness like malt scorched on the bottom of a pot. Not enough to be concerning. The mouthfeel is still gentle. Spiciness becomes a bit more pronounced. It really drives home how much hops are in this beer.
