About This Craft Beer

Beer Characteristics

Scenic Loop is a limited IPA using relatively newer hop varieties. Using Strata, Loral, Cashmere, and Cryo-Pop hops, aromas of peach and apricot leap from the glass. On the palate, you’ll enjoy floral nuances along with lemon and pine flavors. The drinking experience is balanced and clean with moderate bitterness.

Craft Beer Review

Appearance

Slightly hazy. Brown. With a touch of red.

Aroma

Orthonasal Aroma

Strong Strata-like strawberry jam aroma impression, followed by melon. Grape-like fruitiness is also prominent.

Retronasal Flavor

A strong sweet impression like melon-flavored Fanta, with a pleasant melon-like quality reminiscent of kiwi or watermelon rind that beautifully races through the nose.

Taste

Mouthfeel

Distinctively tangy stimulation. Citrus aromas from the very first contact with the mouth.

Body and Texture

A consistent strong bitterness attacks the palate. Tangy melon-like notes, close to the green part of watermelon rind, are chased by plum-like acidity reminiscent of dragon fruit and berries. Just as the bitterness settles in the mouth, the dragon fruit-like melon acidity comes surging forward. The way this curveball acidity accelerates is wonderfully pleasant. I think this is a characteristic unique to this beer among Pizza Port’s lineup.

The Swallow

The smooth, catch-free finish typical of Pizza Port. What sets this apart is a slight dankness. When you sip it slowly, the dankness becomes more prominent. Delicious and pleasant.

Aftertaste

A watermelon-like, melon-y freshness lingers for a long time.

Overall Impression

Has that characteristically Pizza Port consistency (in a good way), yet with substantial malt-forward IPA weight. And yet, the aftertaste is clean and refreshing — very Pizza Port. Extremely delicious. A beer you can keep drinking without fatigue.

Sediment

Strong medicinal notes. Apricot and alcohol. Not too astringent — you could mix it back in with the main pour. That was my review of Pizza Port Scenic Loop WCIPA 7%!
