Hi there! I’m Riho, a craft beer enthusiast. In August 2025, I visited California Wild Ales on a recommendation from a San Diego local. “If you’re going to Pizza Port, you absolutely have to go here too!” they said — and they were right. This was one seriously unique and fun brewery!

California Wild Ales is a San Diego-based brewery specializing in wild ales and sour beers. Their beers feature complex acidity and fruit-forward flavors created through wild yeast and lactic acid bacteria, while their labels and taproom feature adorable, pop-art character designs (reminiscent of Monsters, Inc.!). The brewery is conveniently located within walking distance of Pizza Port Brewery.

Venue & Atmosphere

The interior is a fun, colorful space decorated with pop character designs. There’s also a merchandise corner where you can buy cans and branded goods (my bag was already full so I had to pass… definitely grabbing some next time!). The taproom staff were passionate about their beers and gave thoughtful explanations of each one.

I don’t usually go for beer flights, but this time I went all in with a full flight! It was an incredible experience being able to try all the different wild ale varieties at once.
