I’m Riho, a craft beer enthusiast. I’m reviewing BEERKICHI, which I visited on a trip to Fukuoka (福岡) with a childhood friend.

It’s a small 6-tsubo (about 20 sqm) beer pub in Watanabe-dori (渡辺通), Fukuoka, but the quirky cat character “Beerkichi-kun” greets you at the door. The biggest draw is the fresh craft beer from their in-house brewery, NEKOBEER.

About a 5-minute walk from Tenjin-Minami Station, BEERKICHI occupies what was formerly a “Gold Driver’s License Center” — a wonderfully ironic contrast.

Step inside and you’re greeted by a retro atmosphere and cat characters. The compact 6-tsubo space features an L-shaped counter for standing drinks.

The close proximity to regulars creates a warm atmosphere where even first-timers are quickly drawn into conversation. It’s a spot where you can feel Fukuoka’s craft beer culture up close.

NEKOBEER Hazy IPA

I had a fresh Hazy IPA from their in-house brewery, NEKOBEER. NEKOBEER obtained its brewing license in March 2025, making it a brand-new brewery, and BEERKICHI is where you can enjoy their beer at peak freshness.

The tropical fruit aroma was vibrant, with a smooth mouthfeel. It had the characteristic juiciness of a Hazy IPA while still delivering solid bitterness — a well-balanced pint.

I visited on a trip with a childhood friend, and it’s a place where both cat lovers and beer lovers can have a great time. Whenever I’m in Fukuoka, I’ll definitely be back.
