What Kind of Craft Beer Is This?
Beer Characteristics
From the importer:
Stone Ruination IPA was the world’s first year-round Double IPA to be brewed and sold in bottles.
At the time, no product with such intense hop character existed on the market, and it appealed only to a niche group of beer geeks.
One sip and your palate and preconceptions are destroyed (the meaning of “Ruination”) — it steadily built a growing fanbase.
Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA was released in 2012 to mark the 10th anniversary.
A hoppier take on the original Stone Ruination IPA, it was so well received that it was renamed Stone RuinTen IPA and became an ultra-limited release brewed on an irregular schedule.
This time, the legendary beer makes a limited comeback thanks to fan votes! The devastatingly hoppy recipe remains unchanged from 2012.
The original Stone Ruination IPA is described as “a liquid poem in praise of hops,” so this Stone RuinTen Triple IPA could well be described as “stage-diving into a mosh pit of hops.”
More than 2 kg of hops are added per barrel (about 117L), and the ABV is set high to balance the ferocious hop character.
This deep gold beer with its fluffy off-white head is packed with vivid, fruity hop aromas — nectarine, pineapple, tropical fruit, and lemon oil infused with hints of mint and spice — all from the combination of Citra and Centennial hops.
Juicy tropical fruit flavors dominate from start to finish, but as it warms in the mouth, a pleasant malt balance emerges, converging into a lingering, clean bitterness at the end.
Full-bodied yet dry, with moderate alcohol warmth and sweetness — an extremely bitter Triple IPA.
Quantities are very limited, so don’t miss out!

Craft Beer Review
Appearance
Once the chill haze clears, you can see through to the other side — beautifully transparent. Like whiskey.
Aroma
Aroma (Orthonasal)
Strong malt. Licorice. Alcohol. Centennial-like green apple. Centennial is more prominent than Citra. Does Centennial have good synergy with alcohol? The alcohol is quite strong. Medicinal quality as well. Medicinal crossed with green apple. Probably won’t appeal to everyone.
Flavor (Retronasal)
Black tea, a burnt-like (without unpleasant bitterness) alcohol. Layered hops. Noble. Ripe melon (Citra) is restrained, while Centennial’s green apple hits intensely. Getting a “super Cascade” impression.
Taste
Mouthfeel
Slick mouthfeel. Gentle, but without the calculated softness of a hazy.
Body & Texture
Heavy. Full-bodied. Love it. Once it sits on the tongue, an elegant grassy quality remains. “Grassy” is hard to articulate well. Stone’s ability to express it beautifully is one of their best qualities.
The Swallow
The trademark clean dank character typical of Stone isn’t there. Somewhat refined. Greenish. However, compared to other breweries, the luxuriousness at the moment of swallowing is on another level. There’s still a Stone-like quality.
A strong bitterness mixing alcohol and licorice lingers. Stimulating. Long-lasting finish. Very satisfying.
Aftertaste
Has a slight mitarashi dango (sweet soy glaze) quality. Soy sauce-like notes linger. Alcohol warmth. Licorice. Mitarashi. That sort of vibe. Everything is intense. Long. Delicious.
*A sake-like alcohol warmth flows through the nose a while after drinking. Green apple. Cascade intertwining with it. Refined. Beautiful. Would appeal to Japanese palates.
Overall Impression
The Stone-like dank character might be restrained. The strong licorice, green apple, and alcohol warmth mean you never feel unsatisfied. Much appreciated. That was my review of Stone / RUINTEN (TIPA 11%)!
