About This Beer

Characteristics

A wheat IPA from a brewery known for excellent saisons. I recall their IPAs being delicious as well.

Availability Period

I bought it around May.

Where to Buy

I bought it at The Slop Shop. It appears to be imported by Five Good.

Beer Review

Appearance

Beautiful whitish haze.

Aroma

Aroma (Orthonasal)

Centennial dry hop? Ripe melon-like grassiness with green apple. Behind that, pineapple-flavored bubblegum-like sweetness. Slightly cheesy? The malt sweetness is actually strong, just hidden behind the hops. A slight cookie quality. As the temperature rises, a strong Caesar dressing note emerges. That premium Caesar dressing quality is distinctly Tired Hands.

Flavor (Retronasal)

Slightly grassy nuance with Simcoe chicle. Grapefruit. Red grapefruit? Dragon fruit? Slightly grassy.

Taste

Mouthfeel

Gentleness with wheat spice. While oats completely blanket everything, wheat carries its spice on the carbonation in a different way – clean and gentle.

Body and Texture

Sweetness spreading gradually. Bubblegum. Really good. An orange-ish hop sensation spreads in the mouth that stays just short of astringency. The way it spreads is incredibly dense – a hallmark of American hazy breweries.

The Swallow

Too gentle to call dank. Too stimulating to call oat-like gentleness, yet gentleness is there. This throat feel that balances mildness with a touch of stimulation may be the strength of wheat.

Aftertaste

Mellow. Simcoe chicle-like quality with Centennial grassiness and green apple linger.

Overall Impression

A hazy that showcases wheat’s gentleness. The premium quality typical of Tired Hands is harder to detect here, but if anything, perhaps a hint of that Caesar dressing note found in lambic-style beers?

Sediment/Bottom

Strong grassiness.
