Craft Beer Review

Appearance

Slight haze. Brown with reddish tones.

Aroma

Orthonasal Aroma

Citra-like melon impression. Taking a vigorous sip reveals a sharp alcohol. Sharp yet naturally smooth alcohol that slides right in.

Retronasal Flavor

Slightly resinous impression with alcohol, and a rubbing berry-like fruit character.

Taste

Mouthfeel

Like water. Plus alcohol.

Body and Texture

Heavy malt weight and alcohol. A tea-like, strawberry-like sweetness. The berry character when spreading the liquid flat across the tongue is impressive. It maintains acidity while expressing whiskey-like alcohol in an elegant way.

The Moment of Swallowing

A clean dank impression is clearly present. Goes down pleasantly. Alcohol and citrus. Marmalade and smoke.

Bottom of the Glass

Strong spicy bite.

Overall Impression

This was a beer mixing the classic Citra-Mosaic combo with berry-forward Waimea! When I think of berry-like hops, Strata comes to mind, so Waimea was a surprise. I felt that while Strata pairs well with alcohol-forward, high-ABV styles, Waimea seems to complement fermentation-derived phenols nicely. Could just be my imagination though.
